I accept the contemporary relevance of the proposed new topic 'the political economy of war'. However the current topic relating to the conduct of monetary and fiscal policy is of such fundamental importance that it should not be discarded. It is clearly the source of a major fissure on the 'left'. Indeed more of the deficit doves should be encouraged to participate.
If the likely war is protracted, the two topics may well increasingly overlap.
