I have noticed that, recently, the discussion forum has tended to be going
around in circles, in that I seeing the same issues discussed again and
again. So, I am proposing to change topic and consider the question of what
economic motivations there are for the current war in Iraq.
I was at a discussion group where a European visitor mentioned that in 2002
Iraq had insisted that its oil contract should no longer be denominated in
$US, but now in Euros. Clearly, if all the OPE C countries were to follow,
and all oil contracts were denominated in Euros, then the role of the $US
as the international reserve currency would be severely undermined. This,
of course, would have major implications for the US economy.
And, of course, there is also the issue of oil .........................
